Jesse Helms Passes

Jesse Helms, former U.S. Senator from North Carolina, died today, the Fourth of July.  He joins John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe, who also died on the Fourth.  In one of my favorite presidential stories, John Adams showed his contempt for Jefferson in his final words, “Jefferson survives.”  Adams did not know, however, that [...]

Randy Moss Purchases Nascar Team

Pretty cool: All-Pro New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss has purchased half of a Nascar team.  The team’s single entry, a Craftsman Truck Series Chevrolet Silverado, will change to #81, Moss’ jersey number.  The purchased team, Morgan-Dollar Motorsports, will now be called Randy Moss Motorsports.

How To: Get Friends’ Birthdays on RSS or iCal

Something I’ve always wanted was an RSS feed of my friends’ birthdays in Facebook.  You see, I don’t login to Facebook everyday, but I do open Google Reader (my RSS reader of choice) everyday.  And the only way (until now) to see who’s birthday is today is to login.
But now, problem solved!

New Bond Will Rock

A teaser trailer for the new James Bond film, A Quantum of Solace, has been released.  Ah, Casino Royale was great, and I think this one is going to be even better.  Movie comes out on November 7 in the US.

H/t to Brett.

Discovery Channel Commercial

Emily and I love the Discovery Channel “Boom De Yada” commercial.  And so does XKCD:

And so does Stephen Hawking.
Damn, the commercial even has a Wikipedia page.  That’s impressive.

Review: Zemanta WordPress Plugin

Over the weekend I installed the Zemanta plugin for WordPress.  I read about the Zemanta “content suggestion engine” on Weblog Tools Collection and TechCrunch.
I really like Zemanta.  Oringinally it was made as a browser plugin, and I believe it was released recently to work with some common blogging engines, like WordPress, Movable Type, and Blogger.
What [...]

Some Banks Haven’t Learned

Since I moved to Lawrence, I’d been looking for a new bank. Well, not new. I’m keeping my old bank account, but they don’t have branches in Kansas, so I wanted something local. A place to deposit my paycheck and other odds and ends.  After a little advice, I decided on Capital [...]

Tech Hopes To White Out, Not Wet Their Pants

Georgia Sports Blog on Georgia Tech’s announcement that their first home football game this fall will be a “white out” against Mississippi State:
Imagine the shock of the Tech fans as they enter Bobby Dodd Stadium only to find:
-30,000 Tech Fans
-15,000 Mississippi State fans
-10,000 Empty Seats
-5,000 Cow Bells
And those engineers think Georgia Bulldawg’s are obnoxious, just [...]

Firefox 3 is Released!

Firefox 3 was released this morning!  Get excited, because version 3 is amazing.  I’ve been using the betas since January, and I love it.
Firefox 3 has amazingly low memory usage and loads javascript so fast.  Want that in non-tech terms?  Firefox 3 runs really fast and loads websites like Gmail, Facebook, Yahoo! Mail, Remember the [...]
